CSGOSpeed was big. German review site Betrugstest, testing it while it was live, put registrations above one million and rated it 4.0/5 on the strength of its game selection and interface. The same review, updated in November 2023, opens with a line that ends the story: the site is offline.
How it worked
The model was the standard coins economy. You deposited skins or cases, the site credited coins, you played the coins across its games, and coins bought skins you could withdraw. The catalogue ran to nine-plus cases plus the usual mode set, with the interface in English and Russian and a chat and background playlist bolted on — small touches that mattered when a site's community was the product.
The blank spaces
The most instructive part of that contemporary review is not the score but the specification table, where four rows were empty: company name, address, registration number, licence. Support was email only — no phone, no live chat.
Read that table forward and it describes exactly the counterparty risk that this archive keeps documenting. A million accounts trusted an operator that had published no legal identity, and when it went offline there was, by construction, nobody to write to. That is not a scandal — it was normal for the category — but it is the reason a balance on a site like this was never really yours.
Where the domain went
Check csgospeed.com today and you do not get an error page — you get redirected to another operator's giveaway page. That is the standard afterlife of a dead skin site: the domain still carries type-in traffic and search equity, so it gets sold or pointed at whoever wants the visitors. It also means "the site loads" proves nothing. A brand you remember can resolve perfectly and be nothing but a funnel into a business that has never heard of you.
What to take from it
- Size is not safety. A million registrations bought its users no recourse at all.
- A working domain is not a working site. Redirects outlive operators.
- Check the boring table first. Company, jurisdiction, registration number, a support channel that reaches a human. If a review of a site cannot fill those rows, that is the finding.
- Coins are a claim, skins are an asset. Everything held as site currency died with the domain; everything already withdrawn to Steam did not.
